Gymnocactus

Cactus

This genus has been lumped years ago into Turbinicarpus and includes small cacti with a bulbous or cylindrical body and conical tubercles from which spines come out; it often has a fluffy apex. It is distributed in Mexico, at altitudes ranging between 300 and 2,300 metres above sea level. Gymnocactus subterraneus, with its long and slender prostate stems developing from a tuberous root and ending in an enlarged top-shaped plant body, is one of the most fascinating and unusual species.
